Why Storm Windows Are A Good Choice For Your Home

Interested in saving money? Interested in saving the earth's precious resources? Then you may be interested in installing energy efficient storm windows. Storm windows are a double-pane glass window that helps keep out the hot and cold temperatures from outside, and retain the indoor temperature without you needing to either crank up the air conditioner, or turn up the heat.

Storm windows are a very popular choice, coming in many different types and sizes. The first type of storm window we will look at are interior storm windows. Interior storm windows are simply placed on the inside of your existing window or windows. These windows have a very tight seal and are quite easily installed. As for cleaning, they are also the easiest so if you have many windows in your home, it may be best to choose interior storm windows or those otherwise hard to reach places.

There are also exterior mounted storm windows available. The higher the quality, the more costly these windows are. These windows often come with holes drilled into them (called "weep holes") that allow for moisture and condensation to be released to the outer side of the window. Though these windows are more expensive than interior storm windows, these weep holes may save you a lot of cleaning and annoyance.

When looking around for storm windows, you may notice that there are also hard plastic exterior storm windows. These are made from durable, flexible hard plastic, and though they are less expensive they are considerably more difficult to clean. They also tend to be less attractive than their glass counterparts.

THE BENEFITS OF STORM WINDOWS

Did you know that just having storm windows installed in our home can prevent up to 50% of any sort of loss of heat? And that is only the normal storm windows out there! If you find a storm window coated with "e-coating", you will even be able to prevent more heat loss.

As mentioned with the interior storm windows that do not have the weep holes to release condensation and moisture, it is important to know that storm windows can easily be removed for cleaning purposes.

Though storm windows may not have as many "benefits" as some of the newer windows available nowadays, they still do perhaps prevent the most heat loss out of all types of windows. So if you live in a cold area of the country, storm windows may be your best bet.
